Parties to a custody order must strictly comply with all its terms. They may not deviate without mutual agreement.
Certainly, there are occasions when a parent has legitimate concerns about the child’s safety with the other parent. In that case, the correct course of action is to formally request a modification of the terms in light of these concerns, rather than taking the matter into their own hands. Indeed, to unilaterally ignore the existing order could be used against that parent in a custody hearing.
