If the other party earns more than you, it is quite possible that they will be ordered to pay at least some portion of your legal fees. The court rule on this point is MCR 3.206(D)(2)(a), which authorizes this, if you can show that you are “unable to bear the expense of the action, including the expense of engaging in discovery appropriate for the matter, and the other party is able to pay”.
Without a rule like this, the lesser-earning party might be prevented from the benefit of justice.
